Toledo Road Runner Club
The Toledo Roadrunners Club is Northwest Ohio’s largest and most active running organization, with a membership of almost 1500 runners who are located in the Greater Toledo area, Southeastern Michigan, and Indiana. We were founded in 1976 and we take on all comers, whether you are a jogger, a racer, a walker, or simply someone who’s interested in getting there. Our website, www.toledoroadrunners.org, has a calendar that lists most races of marathon length or shorter within Northwestern Ohio along with some in Southeastern Michigan. We also have a very active Facebook page which you do not have to be a member to join that is full of conversation on training, race reviews, and injury diagnosis (since runners don’t like doctors).
The Toledo Roadrunners host 24 TRRC club races and supports over 100 local nonprofits with their events throughout the year. Through our website calendar, you can easily find an event almost every weekend. We publish a hard copy newsletter, Footprints, 11 times a year with stories, photos and race results. Old newsletters can be found in pdf files on our website.
We have several long running events from the early days of the club’s founding including Churchill’s Half Marathon (48th), Mercy Health Glass City Marathon (40th), and the Women’s Distance Festival (36).
Our premier running event for the year is the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon. We’ll celebrate the 40th running on 4/24/16. The Road Runners Club of America has announced that their Regional-Central Championships for 2016 will take place at the GCM. “The RRCA Championship Event Series is the largest grassroots organized running series in the US, attracting over 320,000 runners each year.” We are extremely excited about this RRCA event, which makes the events honoring our past overall male and female winners and the 50 States Marathon Club reunion even more auspicious.
All registered participants will receive entrance to the Health & Wellness expo where over 45 vendors will be in attendance. The marathon, half marathon, and relay teams receive a gender specific Brooks tech shirt and custom BIB number with their packet. Finishers for the marathon, half marathon, relays, and 5K will receive a custom finisher medal (our medal was voted one of the 25 nicest in the country by MARATHON & BEYOND magazine), a 12 oz commemorative glass mug just right for filling with beer from our beer garden in our post race party. You will have a results book with stories and photographs as well as results mailed to you in the weeks after your finish. To top it off, the registration fee ia among the lowest in the country: $70 for the marathon until 12/31/15. The host hotel is the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center, located approximately one mile from the start/finish.
If you only do one marathon in the spring, consider Mercy Health Glass City Marathon, 4/24/2016.
