on 07 April 2012.

Running USA’s third annual Half-Marathon Report shows that the 13.1 mile distance had another year of impressive growth, but like U.S. marathons in 2011, the growth rate wasn’t as large as recent years. Last year, U.S. half-marathons had an estimated 1.6 million finishers (a new high), an impressive 16.2% increase from 2010 (1,385,000 to 1,610,000), but lower than the historic 24% rise in both 2009 and 2010. Also, in the same 870 U.S. half-marathons for 2010 vs. 2011, there was a 6.4% finisher increase (1,264,907 vs. 1,346,280).

PBS DISTRIBUTION TO RELEASE “AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: JESSE OWENS”

on 20 March 2012.

Arlington, Va.– March 19, 2012 –PBS Distribution today announced it is releasing “AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: JESSE OWENS” on DVD. Jesse Owens was the most famous athlete of his time, whose stunning triumph at the 1936 Olympic Games captivated the world, even as it infuriated the Nazis. Despite the racial slurs he endured, his grace and athleticism rallied crowds around the world. Yet when the four-time Olympic gold medalist returned home, he couldn’t even ride in the front of a bus. “JESSE OWENS is the story of the 22-year-old son of a sharecropper who triumphed over adversity to become a hero and world champion. But his story is also about the elusive, fleeting quality of fame and the way Americans idolize athletes when they suit our purpose, and forget them once they don’t. The film, narrated by actor Andre Braugher (“Men of a Certain Age,” “Glory”), will be available on May 1, 2012. This DVD has a run time of 60 minutes and a SRP of $24.99.
