A More Positive Approach to Running

Written by Richard Ferguson, Ph.D on 23 January 2017.

Positive Psychology is currently one of the hottest areas of study by psychologists. Why are some people positive thinkers and other more negative in their outlooks? None of us were born being positive or negative thinkers. We have all learned to think in a positive or negative manner through varied life and socialization experiences.  The word “learn” is the key here! We can all learn to become more positive in how we approach our running and how we approach life in general.

Written by Nancy Clark MS,RD,CSSD on 16 January 2017.

Up Coming Marathons

on 05 January 2017.

Athens Marathon - The Athens Marathon was started in 1967 by Ellsworth Holden and Stanley Huntsman,  giving it the title of "Ohio's Longest Running Marathon."  With that rich history participants will start in beautiful Uptown Athens right next to the College Green of Ohio University.  The course soon connects with the Hockhocking-Adena Bikeway for a fast and flat remainder of the race before finishing on the Ohio University track.  You'll experience the rich views Athens has to offer in spring time while you meander along the Hocking River Valley.  Though Athens is known for its foothills, you'll stay safely in the valley for the marathon course making this an ideal fast race course to get your Boston Marathon qualifier.  Come join us for the 50th annual Athens Marathon or 27th annual Half-Marathon on Sunday, April 9 - http://www.athensohiomarathon.com

ORRRC Marathon - Ohio River Road Runners Club 50th annual Marathon & 28th annual Half Marathon features an out-and-back route that starts and finishes at the Xenia YMCA on East Church Street and takes the field through downtown.  The race features a long, straightaway stretch out to the turnaround point for the race and back, along a converted railroad trail that now is used by walkers, bikers, inline skaters and runners from around the local area. The race will be held on Sunday, April 9 - http://orrrc.org/event/orrrc-marathon-26th-half-marathon

Note:  The Athens Marathon was first held on March 31, 1968  and moved to April in 1979 and the ORRRC Marathon was first held on October 13, 1968 and moved to April in 2001.

Course records:

Athens: Carl Hatfield (1973) 2:20:41; Iris Black (1979) 3:00:36
