By Nancy Clark MS RD CSSD - Most runners want to have strong muscles to be more powerful, help prevent injuries, and yes, to look buff. They wonder: What can I eat for more muscle, strength and power? The standard belief is eat extra protein, but more fundamental than food is doing some form of resistance exercise. Lifting weights is far more powerful for building muscle than is eating extra protein (unless you have been eating a protein-deficient diet).

Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, parades and athletic events. I hope you will take time this year to honor all of the small business owners for their contributions to America and the World.

The World Athletics Council has today confirmed the competition format for a cross country event to be included in the Olympic Games.

The fall road racing season looks to be cancelled. Cross Country is supposed to start this month. The question we are waiting to know the answer to - will there be a season and how will the races be organized. With the COVID-19 – Corona virus cases increasing remember the various safety guidelines.

For the safety of everyone this year’s event will be a Virtual 5K Run/Walk. Registering for the Virtual 5K will enable you to pick up your t-shirt, and finisher pint glass at Columbus Running Company's Short North location during early packet pickup times. If you or a friend doesn’t pick up your race packet your t-shirt will be mailed to you two weeks after the event (sorry your pint glass will not be mailed).
