USA TRACK & FIELD HALF MARATHON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO COLUMBUS IN 2017

Championships will be held in conjunction with OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon


Over 100 Elite Long Distance Runners Expected to Compete

FRIDAY, APRIL 28 | SHERATON AT CAPITOL SQUARE – GOVERNORS BALLROOM
(2ND FLOOR) | 11:00 A.M.

 WHAT:                 Over 100 of the top male and female long-distance runners in the United States will return to Columbus for the 2017 USA Track & Field (USATF) Half Marathon Championships in conjunction with the 2017 OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon on April 29.

The Greater Columbus Sports Commission and OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon, which jointly bid on the national championships in 2012 and were awarded the event for 2016 and
2017, will host a press conference with several elite long-distance runners competing and community leaders.

 WHO:                   The following individuals will share their thoughts heading into the national championship and be available for interviews immediately following the press conference:

 ·      DAVID BABNER – Race Director, OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon

 ·      LINDA SHETINA LOGAN – Greater Columbus Sports Commission, Executive Director and Honorary Race Director

 ·      JOSH COX – Four-time U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, who now represents many of the nation’s elite long-distance runners

 ·      CHRISTO LANDRY –2016 USATF Half Marathon winner, six-time national champion, and won the USATF 25K Road Championships two weeks after winning in Columbus

 ·      TARA WELLING – Back in Columbus as 2016 USATF Half Marathon defending champion, was top American female at Cherry Blossom 10 Miler on April 2, 2017

 ·      LEONARD KORIR – A native of Kenya and member of U.S. Army, has won USATF national titles in Cross Country and 15K in 2017 and competed in 2016 Summer Olympics in 10,000 meters after gaining U.S. citizenship in same year

 ·      SCOTT FAUBLE – Finished second in Columbus in 2016 just weeks after running a career-best 28:00:43 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational.

 ·      AARON BRAUN – Finished second at 2014 USATF Half Marathon Championships. Coming off wins at Big Sur Half Marathon in November and SACTOWN 10 Miler on April 2

 ·      ALIPHINE TULIAMUK– Has won four national titles since becoming U.S. citizen in April 2016; opened 2017 season with win in USATF Cross Country Championships in Bend, Ore.

 ·      STEPHANIE BRUCE –Opened the 2017 season with a seventh-place finish at the USATF Cross Country Championships and a win at Gasparilla Distance Classic Half Marathon in Tampa.

 NOTE:                  For Saturday’s race day, the post-race press conference featuring the USATF Half Marathon Champions and other competing athletes will be held at 10:00 A.M. IN THE SHERATON AT CAPITOL SQUARE – GOVERNORS BALLROOM on the second floor of the hotel.
