For the tenth year in a row I have had the honor to be on the selection committee to vote for the USA Track & Field National Hall of Fame. The following Olympians and record breakers comprise the 45th National Track & Field Hall of Fame induction class: Modern Athletes,   Dwight Phillips; Veteran Athletes, Kathy Hammond; and Contributor, Bob Hersh.

They make up the newest class who were inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame in Columbus at the USATF National annual meeting last month.http://runohio.com/index.php/features/1594-2018-usatf-hall-of-fame-inductees Stephanie Hightower honored with 2018 USATF Giegengack Award http://runohio.com/index.php/features/1595-stephanie-hightower-honored-with-2018-usatf-giegengack-award

RUNOHIO printed extra copies of this issue so each coach who attends the OATCCC Track & Field Clinic January 24 -26 will receive a copy. http://runohio.com/index.php/features/1597-2019-oatccc-track-a-field-clinic

Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed in the OHSAA Cross Country Championships as well as the various National Championships.  http://runohio.com/index.php/news/1584-2018-ohsaa-state-cross-country-championships  and http://runohio.com/index.php/features/1583-image-gallery-2018-2018-ohsaa-cross-country-championships

As a high school coach my goal is always to have the athletes run the best they can at the end of the season. This year on a soft course 25 of 27 girls and 15 of 17 boys ran their fastest time of the year at our League Championships. At the District Championships all 7 girls ran faster than the week before and 5 ran a life time best. In the boys race 4 of the 7 guys ran faster than they did at the League Championships.

Also, congratulations to the top finishers in the 2018 RUNOHIO Grand Prix. Interviews with these athletes are in this issue.

I will be helping to direct the 19th annual Arnold 5K Pump and Run and the Arnold 5K on March 3rd.  Registration for the Arnold 5K Pump and Run is closed but you can still register for the Arnold 5K.   The races are part of the 31st annual Arnold Sports Festival. - This will be a tough day as my brother, Jeff who helped me with this race and RUNOHIO passed away a few years ago as the race date is his birthday.  http://runohio.com/index.php/features/1548-2019-arnold-5k-run

As another year ends and a New Year begins, one can always look back on numerous positive happenings as well as sad ones we experienced. I am sure we all know people who had a challenging 2018 either with a health or work situation. If you know someone having a rough time, maybe you can do something to make their life better.

When you are making your New Year’ Resolutions, I hope you will consider volunteering at a local road race. If possible, help to sponsor a local race or help a new runner understand proper training and your neighbor who might need some assistance. If we all do a few kind acts to help others who are nearby, I am sure 2019 will be a Great Year!   http://runohio.com/index.php/news/1600-happy-new-year

Don’t forget to renew your subscription to the printed RUNOHIO in 2019. If you are not a subscriber, I hope you will become one in 2019. March will start our 31st year of serving the runners in Ohio and neighboring States. https://www.signmeup.com//123781

The next issue will be a mid March - mid May edition. The deadline is February 14th for calendar information.  For advertising and race results the deadline is February 22nd.

The staff of RUNOHIO wishes you and your family a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!  Hopefully, this winter you will be able to continue your running.
