While in graduate school at Miami University I started the women cross country program. There was no Women’s  NCAA Championships and for four years the team ran under the Association of Intercollegiate Athletes for Women. I coached the team for four year with no support from the Athletic Department. The team was recognized as a club sport and finished fourth each year in the All Ohio Cross Country Championships behind Ohio State, Bowling Green and Ohio University. After running in the Mid American Conference Cross Country Championships for three years when the NCAA took over women sports the Miami team was banned from running the MAC Championships as it was not a varsity team. To raise money for the team I organized a 5km cross country race and a five mile run in the fall and the Red Brick Run 5K in the spring. Under the Miami Recreation Department the 40th annual Red Brick Run will be held April 28th –  https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=130778

Good luck with your training and racing

Too Perfect?

by Richard Ferguson

With constant images and messages about the importance of being perfect, many begin to genuinely internalize the idea of perfectionism. Sure, you want to do well, do a good job, feel confident and even run well. Striving for excellence can be very healthy, but there is a big difference in striving to do well and being a true perfectionist.

by Nancy Clark

Runners commonly train early in the morning in order to get to work or classes on time. Parents may get up at 5:00, to fit in their run before the kids get up. Many of these runners report eating nothing before their exercise session.
