History of the 4th

Variously known as the Fourth of July and Independence Day, July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, road races, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

KEEPING TRACK - Ten reasons to love the Ohio State High School Track and Field Championships. (In no particular order)

Written by Rod O'Donnell on 01 June 2016.

  1. Jesse Owens Stadium: It is not The Horseshoe, that historical venue where the meet was held for many years, but it is a first-class facility that honors one of America’s track icons. The former Cleveland and Ohio State legend defied the evil Adolf Hitler and won multiple medals at the Berlin games in 1936.

Why does Ohio Require Nine Athletes for a Track & Field Team - When other States Only Require One?

Written by Matt McGowan on 20 May 2016.

Congratulations to Warren JFK which won the OHSAA Boys Division III State Track
& Field Championship - Even though the OHSAA doesn't recognize the school as
having a track and field team since they only had 7 boys on their roster.
There are probably 90 boys Track & Field teams in Ohio with fewer than 9 boys
on their team and even though many score in the District Championships their
schools are not counted as having a team by the OHSAA
