2016 National Track & Field Hall of Fame

A stellar lineup of athletic greats and legendary contributors make up the USATF National Track & Field Hall of Fame Class of 2016. The five newest members will be inducted during the second annual Black Tie & Sneakers Gala in New York City on November 3rd.

2016 Columbus Marathon

The October 16th Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & ½ Marathon featured a field of 18,000 participants and, over the past five years, has raised more than $5.8 million for the hospital.

Life Lessons from Cross-Country

It doesn’t always get the attention that it truly deserves, and, at times, those who are passionate about it don’t communicate how special this sport really is.

Is it time for the Ohio High School Athletic Association to reconsider how they determine if a high school has a track & field team? The OHSAA requires a school to have 9 athletes entered in the District Track & Field Championships for them to count that school as having a team, even though one athlete can score in the District Championships giving that school a score and a place in the District Championship.

On the Run with Matt McGowan - from print mid September - mid November RUNOHIO

Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed in the Rio Olympics   A number of athletes with Ohio connections excelled. Elyria High School graduate Tianna Madison Bartoletta won the long jump and was a member of the winning 4 x 100 meter relay.  Tri-Village High School graduate and Akron University athlete Clayton Murphy captured the Bronze in the 800 meters. The USA middle and long distance runners had one of the best performances in recent memory.

Combined Enrollment Reversed

After three and half years of  treating cross country different than all of the other Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored sports and  Championships the OHSAA Board eliminated the use of combined enrollment.  Cross Country was the only sport where the OHSAA added both the boys and girls enrollment of the bottom three grades of a school and divided by 2 to determine a school divisional assignment.

Clayton Murphy - Bronze Medal!

Coburn breaks American steeplechase record en route to historic Olympic bronze

(USATF) - RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- Emma Coburn (Crested Butte, Colorado) ran the race of her life Monday morning, clinching the first Olympic women’s steeplechase medal in U.S. history and posting Team USA’s fourth women’s American record so far in Rio.

Molly Huddle sets AR of 30:13.17 in Olympic 10,000 meters!

What was so spectacular about Molly Huddle's race was her ability to pull herself back from the precipice. At 4000m, Molly Huddle was near AR pace for her own 5000 meter record! She slowed the pace down, hitting the 5000m in 14:55, nine seconds behind Alice Nawowuma and Almaz Ayana. When Ayana took off after 5,000 meters, Molly Huddle was twenty meters off the seventh placer, but moved past two in the final 4000 meters. Molly Huddle was rewarded with a 30:13.72 for the 10,000m, a new American record!
