Mid-East Cross Country Championships

Outstanding November weather greeted the runners for the 23rd annual Mid-East Cross Country Championships. The race featured many of the top high school cross country seniors from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.

Ohio Sylvania Northview’s Meredith Wagner was the first runner to hit the 2 mile mark as she passed it in 12:10, but a 100 meters later she would drop out of the race and Ohio Dresden Tri-Valley’s Allison Stillwell (18:11) would take the lead and cruise to victory. Illinois Sandburg’s Alexis Goldsmith (18:22) captured runner up honors. Illinois’ Benet Academy’s McKinzie Schulz (18:35) captured the bronze. Ohio Shaker Heights’ Katelyn Walker (18:38) was fourth. Michigan Allendale’s Devan John (18:44), Indiana Franklin Central’s Dani Sullivan (18:51) and Illinois Marist’s Ashley Sellers (18:53) rounded out the top seven.

Illinois (44) won their first ever girls team title. Indiana (54) nipped Michigan by a point for runner up honors while Ohio was fourth with 61 points.

Indiana Chesterton’s David Osborn (15:38) held off Michigan Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Nathan Karr (15:42) for top honors. Indiana Carmel’s Tom Ohlman (15:47) nipped Indiana Culver Academies’ Alejandro Arroyo by less than a second for the bronze. Ohio Circleville’s Brad Liston (15:59), Michigan Haslett’s Ian Hancke (15:50) and Ohio Green’s Kyle Wheeler (15:51) rounded out the top seven.

Indiana (29) won the boys team title while Ohio was second with 45 points. Michigan (57) and Illinois (123) finished next.
