Running Network Houston Meeting

RUNOHIO has been part of the Running Network for the past twenty years and last year as well as for many years before our winter meeting was held on the Walt Disney property during the Walt Disney Marathon/Half Marathon.

Last weekend The Running Network held their winter meeting in Houston during the USA Half Marathon Championships and Chevron Houston Marathon. The Running Network is a group of 24 national and regional publications. The various print and web sites provides running news and information for the person just starting to run to the veteran runner who has been running most of their lives. The various publications provide the most comprehensive race results and local and a National Calendar in both their print publications and on the web. During the meeting we discussed ways to improve our running coverage. As a group The Running Network has been able to provide the local and national running news you want.

Larry Eder, is the president of The Running Network and does numerous tasks to make each publication better as well as working with advertisers, facilitated our meeting. Chuck Bartlett is the Running Network web guru shared with the group some of the new web items such as the new home page - http://www.runningnetwork.com/RNW. Victor Sailor who is one if not the top track and field and running photographer spoke to us about what he does in taking pictures. The Running Network uses many of his pictures. While in Houston Steven Karpas the Managing Director of the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon provided The Running Network with everything we needed to cover the events while having our meeting. The Chevron Houston Marathon is one of three races which submitted bids to hold the 2012 USA Olympic Marathon Trials. 2008 host Olympic Marathon Trials, the Boston Marathon for women and the New York City Marathon for men, along with the Chevron Houston Marathon will find out in about two months which race will be chosen to host the 2012 USA Olympic Marathon Trials. Houston officials said they would welcome to host one race or both Trials. Doug Logan the CEO of USA Track & Field (USATF), the national governing body for track and field and long distance running spoke at the pre race press conferences and stated “the Houston bid was very aggressive”. Good luck to whichever race(s) is awarded the bid to host the Trials. Hopefully, I will be able to return to Houston next year and in 2012 and I will be able to cover the USA Olympic Marathon Trials as numerous Ohio women and men will be competing.
