The track and field season is heating up. I hope to see you at the OHSAA State Track and Field State Championships in June or another race this Spring. This year’s OHSAA Track & Field Championships will be a lot different, as the meet will not be held at the OSU Jesse Owens Stadium. Instead, it will be at the following three locations: Division I at Hilliard Darby High School; Division II at Pickerington North High School; Division III at Westerville North High School.

The Championships time schedule for the June 5th and 6th can be found at: https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/files/Sports/Track-Field/2021StateTrackFieldSchedule.pdf

I probably will go to the Division II Championships as the Watterson boy’s cross-country team ran the State Championships this year and my brothers and I ran at Division II Circleville H.S. If there is anyone who will be taking pictures at the other locations I would appreciate photos from the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races. I am not sure if I can get you a press pass from the OHSAA but if I can’t be there I hope I will be able to get passes for someone to go to Division I and someone else to go to Division III.

USATF Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field
June 18 – 27 Eugene Oregon

Even though I ordered tickets almost a year and a half ago for the Olympic Trials they have since been cancelled due to COVID 19 uncertainly. I have had tickets and media credentials for seven of the past Olympic Track & Field Trials. From USATF - “Based on state and local health regulations for stadium capacity and the high volume of tickets that already have been sold, the Local Organizing Committee has determined that the tickets held by existing customers cannot be fulfilled. As a result, all ticket customers will have their tickets refunded.” New ticket information will be announced later on
https://www.gotracktownusa.com/tracktown20 If I don’t attend I hope Victor Sailor of PhotoRun will provide me with pictures. My bother Jeff and I meet Victor at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Trials. He is one of the top photographer for Track & Field and I appreciate his help and support.

In past Olympic Trials I have had RUNOHIO – Eugene 2016 shirts for athletes, family and friends who have attended to the Trials. If I don’t go I will be glad to send free RUNOHIO – Eugene 2021 shirts to family and friends who attend the Trials. This email address is being protected from spambots. Keeping Track

By Rod O’Donnell - Ken Norton’s first novel, When Legends Run Free, is a must-read for anyone who has participated in, coached, or has been associated in some way, with the sport of cross-country. The author, who was a Division II All-American at Southwest Missouri and was coached by the legendary Chuck Hunsaker, captures the true essence of the sport and the dedicated athletes who participate in it. His descriptions of the races, the warm-ups, grueling interval workouts, and long Sunday runs on crisp fall mornings, will truly bring back many wonderful memories of similar experiences that we have all had.

A Letter From USATF Midwest Masters Track & Field Regional Coordinator, Phillip Pillin

(serving the Masters T&F athletes in the states of Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin)

My name is Phillip Pillin and I was a 1980 graduate of Poland Seminary High School where I ran cross country and track. I then went to Bowling Green State University where I continued my running and racing career near the back of the pack graduating there in 1984 after having some of the best running times of my life.

On the Run with Matt McGowan from January – March 2021 print RUNOHIO

The past eleven years I have had the honor to be on the selection committee to vote for the USA Track & Field National Hall of Fame.  Because of COVID 19 the 2020 USATF Hall of Fame induction was postponed until 2021. The USATF’s 42nd Annual meeting was held virtually earlier in December.

Track

Spring is the start of one of the oldest sport known to mankind – Track and Field. Track and Field is one of the most diverse sports as there are 17 different events for high school athletes and 20 for collegiate athletes to challenge themselves. According to The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) girl’s track and field is the largest participatory sport for high school girls and track & field is the second largest participatory sport for boys. With the popularity and diversity of Track & Field why have some many Mid American Conference schools and other NCAA Division I universities dropped Men’s Track & Field.
