The weather during the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials was the hottest ever for Eugene as the temperature reached 100 degree on the final day. Despite the weather a number of outstanding performances were recorded including two World records.
The weather during the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials was the hottest ever for Eugene as the temperature reached 100 degree on the final day. Despite the weather a number of outstanding performances were recorded including two World records. 2016 Rio shot put gold medalist Ryan Crouser exceeded fellow American Randy Barnes' 31-year-old record by 25 centimeters with a 23.37-meter throw - 76 feet, 8 1/4 inches to establish a new World record. Sydney McLaughlin established a new World record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.90 lowering Dalilah Muhammad record of (52.16) who place 2nd in 52.42.
A number of Ohio athletes will be going to the July 23- August 8 Tokyo Olympics. Clayton Murphy (Tri-Village H.S.) won the 800 meter Trials in a World leading time of 1:43.17. Murphy who trains in the Cleveland area also won the 2016 US Olympic Track & Field Trials and was the bronze medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Reggie Jagers (Solon H.S.) placed 2nd in the discus with a toss of 205’ 5” to make the Olympic team. Three Ohio State athletes will be competing in the Olympics. Adelaide Aquilla (Rocky River Magnificat) earned her ticket to the Olympics placing 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 62’ 2 ¼”. Christina Clemons finished 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles with a time 12.53. Annavia Battle makes the Olympic team finishing 3rd in the 200 meter with a time of 21.95.
Congratulations to all athletes who competed in the Trials and good luck to all American athletes at the Tokyo Olympics.
This year’s Ohio High School Athletic Association 113th annual Boys and the 46th annual Girls Track & Field Championship looked a lot different, as the meet was not held at the OSU Jesse Owens Stadium. Instead, it was held at the following three locations: Division I at Hilliard Darby High School; Division II at Pickerington North High School; Division III at Westerville North High School.

Columbus 10K
The Columbus 10K started as the Citizen Journal 10K. For over a decade RUNOHIO’s Matt McGowan, who was the winner of the inaugural race, oversaw the event. Greater Cleveland Sports Commission announced the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games will be held in Cleveland during the Summer of 2024
