Cross Country
Cross Country is in full swing - best of luck to all runners. If you are not running, I hope you can watch a meet or two of your favorite school and support these great athletes.
Cross country running is one of the disciplines under the umbrella sport of athletics. Although competitions are prehistoric, the rules and traditions of cross country racing emerged in Britain. The English Championship became the first national competition in 1876, and the International Cross Country Championships was held for the first time in 1903. Since 1973, the foremost elite competition has been the World Athletics Cross Country Championships.
Portable lights will be set up so the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships Friday, September 16 at Cedarville, University’s Elvin King Cross Country Course will be held under the lights.

The staff of RUNOHIO would like to wish you and your family a Happy Labor Day. I hope you are able to spend time with family and friends this Labor Day and reflect on the meaning of this National Holiday.
In 1894 Congress designated the first Monday in September Labor Day a legal holiday for all federal employees and the residents of the District of Columbia.

The OHSAA recently added boys’ volleyball as a sanctioned sport. This will probably not be the last addition to a growing list of official “sports”, as the organization is considering e-sports among its future offerings. Consider this – many states governing organizations who oversee high school extracurricular activities have added squash, rugby, surfing, air riflery, rock climbing, bass fishing, trap shooting, canoe paddling, kayaking, and badminton to their list of sanctioned sports.

You just might be planning to run a major race this fall. Finally, the weather is getting cooler, the leaves will be turning colors soon and your long summer training program is going to hopefully pay off.

As a sports nutritionist, I commonly counsel runners and other athletes who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder—generally referred to as ADHD (or ADD). ADHD is characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, and/or inattention. It affects 4-10% of all American children and an estimated 4.4% of adults (ages 18-44 years). ADHD usually peaks when kids are 7 or 8 years old. Some of the ADHD symptoms diminish with maturation but 65-85% of the kids with AHDH go on to become adults with ADHD.

Confidence: It’s Your Choice
|
There is no question that confidence can be developed in runners. Confidence, for the most part, is a choice we make in our thinking. Certainly, past success will lead to confidence, but a runner doesn’t have to depend on success to increase their confidence. It’s really your choice whether you think and behave with confidence. Confidence is under your control! Confidence begins with YOU!

Granville Ohio is a quaint New England Style town filled with distinctive architecture, historic hotels, numerous restaurants and friendly neighbors.
RUNOHIO is a member of the Granville Chamber of Commerce and I wanted to share a recent promo about Granville –
For nineteen years I have been a member of the Granville Village Council, for two years I served as the Vice Mayor and for two years I served as the Mayor. While I was the Mayor the Village purchased the Bryn Du Mansion.
