Your Monthly News & Updates. March 2023

I introduced RUNOHIO at the 1988 Columbus Marathon and the first issue of RUNOHIO was printed in March of 1989. My younger brother Jeff and my mom, Jean McGowan, assisted with the start of the publication. A number of difficulties have occurred since we started RUNOHIO, including Jeff passing in 2012 and my mom passing in 2018. March starts our 35th year serving the running community. If you are not a subscriber to the print RUNOHIO, I hope you will sign up this year - https://runsignup.com/runohio
Spring is in the air as flowers and trees start to come back to like. Hopefully, the winter weather didn’t hurt Ohio’s fruit trees.is Spring is also a good time to improve our training and test our fitness in the many races this year. Spring is also the start of one of the oldest sport known to mankind – track & field. Track & field is one of the most diverse sports as there are 17 different events for high school athletes and 20 for collegiate athletes to challenge themselves. According to The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) girl’s track and field is the largest participatory sport for high school girls and track & field is the second largest participatory sport for boys.

The Athlete’s Kitchen - Pre-Race Weight Loss: Helpful or Harmful?
by Nancy Clark MS RD CSSD
|
Many runners fantasize about losing weight (“Wouldn’t it be nice to lose a few pounds…”).Unlike some athletes who have to lose weight in order to meet a specific division for their sport (such as boxers or wrestlers), runners often choose to target a lower-than-normal weight for a specific race. (Note: Dropping weight once or twice a year is far healthier than trying to keep a low weight all year round!)

Granville Ohio is a quaint New England Style town filled with distinctive architecture, historic hotels, numerous restaurants and friendly neighbors.
RUNOHIO is a member of the Granville Chamber of Commerce and I wanted to share a recent promo about Granville –
For nineteen years I have been a member of the Granville Village Council, for two years I served as the Vice Mayor and for two years I served as the Mayor. While I was the Mayor the Village purchased the Bryn Du Mansion.
