The print RUNOHIO layout person for the past thirty three years retired.  I have been trying to find a replacement and it has been difficult.  My web person, Chuck Bartlett decided he would try to layout this issue. We were hoping to print a month ago but Chuck unexpectedly had some surgery and isn’t able to work because of his surgery.  Hopefully, he will be back on his feet next few months.  Luckily, I was able to get Cliff Wiltshire to lay out this issue.  I have known him for over twenty years when he worked for the Suburban News Publication.  He is now the editor of the Clintonville Spotlight and Worthington Spotlight.  He also helped me find my new printer last year.

After being a race director of 200 plus races since I was in college I am not sure if I will direct any races this year.  I started the women’s cross country team at Miami University before the NCAA sponsored women’s sports.  The team was organized as a club sport and competed under the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. To help finance the team I directed three local races including two races in the fall a 5K cross country race and a 5 Miler and in the spring the Miami University Red Brick 5K.  A few of the other races I have directed over the years include: Converse Midwest Cross Country Championship, Columbus 10K, Crew 5K, Max & Erma’s Jingle Bell 5K, Arnold 5K, Arnold 5K Pump & Run, Circleville Classic 5 Miler (this year Circleville Classic 5K), Shamrock Club 5K, Jeff McGowan 5K, Worthington Classic 5 Miler, Watterson/Whetstone Alumni Cross Country 5K and the Granville Summer Cross Country Series.

Tom Wagonsellor who has helped me for twenty years with the Granville cross country events.  We are hopeful someone else in town will continue this event with our help. Hopefully, you had a good fall of training and racing.   As another year ends one can always look back on numerous positive happenings as well as sad ones we experienced. I am sure we all know people who had a challenging 2023 either with a health or work situation. If you know someone having a rough time, maybe you can do something to make their life better.  Also, when you are making your New Year’s Resolutions, I hope you will consider volunteering at a local road race. If possible, help to sponsor a local race or help a new runner understand proper training and help your neighbor who might need some assistance. If we all do a few kind acts to help others who are nearby, I am sure 2024 will be a Great Year!  Also, remember to shop locally to help all the businesses in your hometown.

I am hoping to provide the current issue of RUNOHIO for coaches again at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches annual Track & Field Clinic at the Columbus Hilton Easton - January 25-27.

Also, I plan to be at the March 3rd Arnold 5K Pump & Run and Arnold 5K to take pictures.  Tim Pancher oversaw the Arnold 5K Pump & Run lifting and I was the race director as we worked together on this event for twenty years.  Andy Harris of the Columbus Running Company has been the race director for the past two years.

Good luck to all athletes competing in the 2024 Orlando U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon on February 3.

The deadline for the Spring RUNOHIO is March 7th.
