The Toledo Roadrunners Club, founded in 1976, has approximately 1600 members.
The majority of the membership resides in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, though the Club is represented in nine states. We are one of the larger clubs affiliated with the RRCA, due to a strong history and a community that loves this sport. The Club is open to anyone with an interest in jogging, walking and/or running. We have over 30 events annually ranging from casual gatherings, kids’ runs, small member and community races, to our signature event, the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon. The Club has a scholarship fund for members interested in post-secondary education and a community grant program. Being a non-profit charitable organization, the giving aspect of our Club will grow in the coming years.
One of our premier events, the Churchill’s Half Marathon, will be held on November 12, 2022 and is right around the corner. The Churchill’s Half Marathon is the oldest half marathon and the second oldest race in the State of Ohio. It is also one of the oldest continuously running half marathon events in the country. This point-to-point half marathon draws 1,500 athletes annually and has been an RRCA championship event. The course passes through four cities and travels over rolling hills along the scenic Maumee River. If you are not up for a half marathon, the Club offers a 5K option. The ProMedica 5K to End Hunger was awarded the RRCA State Championship designation for 2022. You can find more at http://www.churchillshalfmarathon.org
To all looking to participate in this historic event (weekend of April 22-23, 2023), registration is open for our Mercy Heath Glass City Marathon (GCM). 2022 marks its 46th anniversary. The GCM was awarded the RRCA Road Race of the Year and the Race Director won the Race Director of the Year award for 2021. The GCM was recently named the 2023 RRCA National Championship event for the marathon. GCM is one of the top 25-50 fastest marathon courses in the U.S. and historically has 20+ percent of our finishers qualify for the Boston Marathon. It has become an annual favorite for a field of 10,000 runners and walkers who are looking for a competitive challenge in a hometown atmosphere. The weekend consists of kids’ races, a 5K, a half marathon, a marathon relay, and the marathon. There is something for everyone. You can find more at https://glasscitymarathon.org
Our website, www.toledoroadrunners.org, offers various services including places to run, a community calendar, membership renewal, Club news, and scholarship and grant information. The Club has a strong partnership with Metroparks Toledo and many of our events are held or pass through the Metroparks. Metroparks Toledo was recently named America’s No. 1 park district for 2020 among large cities. The Club publishes Footprints, a monthly newsletter, which is offered digitally or paper via mail to all members. All members are encouraged to submit news of local and out of town races, their profiles, etc. so all can learn about each other. Check out our Club! https://www.toledoroadrunners.org
